Do not sign up for Humana Gold!!

My mother's experience with this so-called health care company has been unremitting hassle. Their modus operandi is to deny things, and benefits coordinators are compelled to play silly games, first trying to get patients into a higher level of care knowing it will be denied, in order then to get them into the next level of care down. They can't just start off asking for the lower level of care because, since Humana routinely denies everything, they run the risk of failing to get any care for the patient. If my mother had stuck with regular Medicare, she would be in the rehab facility where she belongs right now instead of languishing in the hospital until Humana finishes playing games with people's lives and health.

MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT

Three times I have had a problem whereby Humana Transportation failed to show up. I do not have peace of mind. I am in NY and my folks are in Florida. I schedule all their rides and THREE times, the drivers have not shown up. On other occasions, the driver arrived late. My father recently had a surgical procedure and was never picked up from the hospital, despite the fact we scheduled a return trip. My parents have missed appointments due to this incompetence. Who is in charge to ensure that members receive the care to which they are entitled? My parents pay for the Gold Package but have yet to reap the benefits of this package. Last week, I spoke to a supervisor and just yesterday, transportation failed to show up. Other times, the driver showed up late (an hour late, to be exact). No one is ACCOUNTABLE here and I think this is real travesty, particularly since this service is especially designed to provide care for the elderly.

Perscription refill request get canceled

They keep saying Humana is not my primary. I am retired and only have Humana Social Security Plan D. Every 3 months I go thru this. yesterday I was on the phone with them for 4 hours getting bounced around from department to another and still haven't gotten the refill request accepted. I checked today and see that the request is delayed waiting ok from Humana. In the past (on at least 4 occasions) I was told every thing was sorted out, but obviously it isn't.

Humana refused to help me because I purchased from Marketplace

I currently have a Humana Dental plan through the Marketplace, and found a different Humana Dental plan that I was considering for next year. I wanted to find out if their provider network was any different for this new one, since it was cheaper. I couldn't find this new plan's provider network online, so I called them. When I told the representative that I found the plan on the Marketplace, he became rude, trying to rush me off the call, and refused to tell me any more information. He told me I would have to call the Marketplace to find out what the Humana provider network was. Obviously Marketplace said Humana would be the one to tell me about their own provider network. I feel like I was treated poorly because I purchased from the Marketplace instead of directly from them, even though it was Humana's plan I was paying for! So I had to call Humana back and deal with their customer service for a second time. Well, turns out all three of my family's dentists dropped Humana this year, so thankfully I'll never need to deal with this company anymore.

Epic incompetence and confusion with no option for resolution

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
This particular odyssey involve no less than 12 Human "customer service" reps. Moving from Nebraska to Mississipi in 9/2014 I had need to insure coverage elsewhere, as modern health insurance policies are imminently more restrictive service-wise as well as geographically. I had the first "customer service" rep Meagan confirm to me THREE times that I will have NO lapse in coverage. Of course that ended up not being true as confirmed 3 months later by 2 separate "customer service" SUPERVISORS in 1/2015. They also told me that I would have coverage in Florida, this TOO was not true and they ended up informing me that I actually had NO coverage in Florida and that again I was told wrong, C'MON!!. During that time I had a claim in Miss. which the provider AND Humana stated I had no coverage for, so 5 months later I unexpectedly get the bill, so I was forced to pay the claim myself. See if this sounds familiar; "We're sorry Mr. West you had so much difficulty with previous representatives but I will help you. Same *** cookie cutter statement the next 9 or so gave me too. NOW in 7/2015 I'm told that I actually DID have coverage and that the 5 or 6 reps who told me I had no coverage were all wrong. We're talking supervisors here giving me apologies and assurances. So now having been told by Humana that I had coverage, that I didn't, and finally that I did, but having already paid the bill, a supervisor told me that it is up to ME to get my money back. I have to contact the provider, I have to show proof, I have to possibly drive 4 hours to AGAIN fix Humana's narcissistic incompetence. NOW they've sent me another bill fo Further insult to injury despite the fact that Humana has confused, misrepresented and denied responsibility at every opportunity. Unlike every other insurance company in the world, Health, Auto, Life, etc., where customer out-of-pocket or overpayments are rectified in one simple electronic or company bookkeeping maneuver, Humana has NO process for settling overpayments by the customer. They *** sure have an accurate system for taking customer money and they hound and send copious amounts of documents to insure they get THEIR money. But you are skawrewd if you ever have to recoup moneys lost due to the prevailing stupidity, incompetence, greed and customer disservice one gets from Humana. They took my Federal funds to pay for the plan, billed me, told me I had coverage when I didn't, THEN because they, as the supervisor said, "Have no 'process' for rectifying their multiple mistakes". Greed coupled with stupidity, incompetence, apathy and unending confusion DESPITE it being all on computers and the year 2015; welcome to Humana

No one Monitors what Humana is doing

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have tried for 2 years to get a list of health care providers. I just can't get one. My leg swelled and I called to ask which doctor I could visit. No one could or would give me an answer. Finally they said go anywhere an if the doctor is not in their network the co-pay is only a little bit higher. I fell for it and when it was finally determined that I needed a small procedure on a vein in my leg, I was called 2 days before my appointment and told to cancel because Humana was sending huge bills to all patients who were seeing a doctor out of their network. My foot is purple, my leg is sore but I have to pray that no clots occur before I can change health care companies in January 2016. If I were president I sure wouldn't want my name attached to this medical mess we are having to live with. Everything was fine before "Obamacare", happened. Why did they have to screw it up for those of us who were happy with our plans? I am young so who do I sue if I lose my foot before January? Who will pay for the prosthesis and physical therapy and converting my car so I can drive with my other leg? I am also sick of having tests pushed on me. Luckily I have a medical background. I had fainted, probably due to not eating enough. I am a widow and I have so much back pain by the end of the day I can't cook. I had about 4 tests for my heart and was told everything was fine. Would I like to have an EKG implanted in my chest????? WOW someone has to pay for that beautiful, empty building. If I am fine, why would I risk infection and God know what else to have my GOOD heart monitored 24/7? Or look at my brain with an MRI with a $250.00 co-pay, to see why I fainted, but also schedule an EEG 2 days later to further check my brain? Do you think that is necessary? I doubt the doctor would have not even seen the MRI by then. Someone needs to be monitoring these things that are going on.

Also when you call that doctor make sure they take your insurance. You see the lists are out there but usally are never updated and are never correct.

Guest

You can go on Humana's website and click on "find a doctor" put in your zip code and find someone. It would be impossible for them to print you a list of their providers, there are too many.

Sorry, but you do have to do some of your own research. I just looked it up for you.

Error in billing a Humana Advantage plan member incorrectly.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
o: Humana Customer Service Sent: Tue 07/21/2015 12:33:39 PM Subject: Humana Pharmacy Mail Order I have sent a request to find out if my account has been corrected with the $12.99 charge which has been posted to my account at Humana R/X? I have not received a response yet and would appreciate a final response since I received an e-mail claiming that I have a pending balanace of $12.99 to my account when this is incorrect. I went into detail explaining that I had received an e-mail from Humana offering me a better price if I were to order all my prescriptions from Humana. When I did I was charged this $12.99 fee for a prescription which was less than a 90 days supply. This was not explained to me when I was asked to transfer all my prescriptions which I was currently purchasing at WalMart, HEB, and Walgreens. I spoke with many persons at Humana about this and a suppervisor by the name of Denstiny final confirmed that she was in the process of making the credit correction to my account and not to worry about this $12.99 balance anymore. Then I receive an e-mail claiming I have a balance which could hurt my future prescription service. On 6-10-2015 Destiny called me back and confirmed my credit. At this time I explained to her that I had two other prescriptions that were less than 90 days prescriptions and that I did not want the same problem to happen with those two as well. She said not to worry, but I cancelled them anyways to make sure I had not future issues or problems. This is under my Humana Advantage plan and as of 10-1-2015 I will be on my new plan of Humana R/X Walmart plan. I thought this $12.99 problem was corrected therfore I went on and signed up with Humana R/X WalMart plan effective 10-1-2015. However if I am going to have these kind of problems where I am told one thing by Humana than cahrged differently, I was to know know so I can make my decision on wheather to continue with Humana or not. Please respond, since I thought this was taken care of since 6-10-2015. Thanks, Toribio (Toby) Castro

Humana's systems are down, in the middle of a Thursday, for "upgrading." Either their reps who say that are lying to cover a computer failure or the company is too *** to upgrade early Sunday AM, like everyone else. They don't know when it will be back up, so it is probably a failure. The reps offer no help but to suggest you keep calling back. This is not acceptable treatment of customers. Negotiating their phone tree to reach a reps is bad enough the first time, but to have to do it repeatedly is absurd. Terrible service as the medical industries head towards monopolies is going to produce ever less satisfactory customer service and value, at higher cost.

Forcing someone to see a doctor

I feel betrayed by Humana that you say it is your policy that I see a Primary Care doctor twice a year. This, in my opinion, should be the choice of the person, not some bureaucratic bunch of people. In my opinion also, you have lowered yourselves to the status of " Obamacare" by taking away the right of choice. I don't see a primary doc unless I feel I need to see them. This policy of yours was not made clear when I signed up for my medicare coverage with you. I never had this type of problem with Humana when I had it as my primary coverage years past when I was working and Humana was offered by my company. I think your policy stinks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Humana takes 1 MONTH to send prescription. CVS takes 10 minutes

Humana takes 1 MONTH to send prescriptions. CVS takes 10 minutes! What a joke! The independent health insurance who did not know Humana was so slow and had bureaucrats in customer service, just told me he is sending a MASS EMAIL to HUNDREDS OF HIS CUSTOMERS NOT TO DO BUSINESS with Humana. Also he is telling hundreds of Humana customers in his list to CANCEL their membership in Humana. Humana probably does not give a *** if they lose a few customers. They probably have millions of suckers from whom they are automatically collectiing tens of millions of dollars in premiums. Just Disgusted - Ben K. Liama

Humana Gold Plus Review from Park Forest, Illinois

I signed up for Humana Gold Plus in January 2015. Everything sounded good until I really needed medical attention. Around June I needed to see an ENT doctor preferably a surgeon. Every one I called in the Humana book did not accept Humana insurance. ..what???. I called Humana because I knew this couldn't be true...but it was. Some customer service rep gave me the same names that I already tried then she finally found one and only one that was actually in the network and would take this crummy insurace. Not saying he is not a good doctor but his professionalism is questionable. I would not have chosen him and neither would my primary care physician (who is the ONLY) doctor I was able to keep. I am now desperately searching for a gastroenterologist. I have literally gone thru 37 of the 40 names in the Humana book. Most have simply said they no longer take Humana. A few have retired, one is out of the country, some numbers are disconnected, some numbers are just not answered. This is so frustrating!! You are in need of medical attention and no doctor will see you. This is totally ridiculous. It speaks volumes about the insurance if so few doctors are in the network. What are we, the customers supposed to do? Maybe when someone dies and their family sues something may be done. This is the worst insurance I have ever had and I cannot wait to disenroll. Hopefully before I die waiting on a doctor to accept this insurace.

My father fell & we found him 13 hrs later. ER puts him in as observation then the next day he is changed to admitted in-patient. 3 midnights served (like they need) and he needs inpatient rehab and wound care. Denied access to inpatient rehab and may have to go to skilled nursing for sub-par therapy. BUT, they are trying to deny his whole hospital stay. RUN as fast as you can from this company. They are only interested in saving themselves money not your health care. Can't wait until I can pull my parents out of this! Picture won't load

Humana took money from a minor for a year's dental coverage, but when my daughter had work done and a claim was sent in, they denied the claim saying that she has to wait 6 months. She went to the dentist for a routine cleaning and x-rays and a cavity was found. The dentist made an appointment to fill the cavity, so she went. Now Humana wants to stick her with a $379 bill because they don't want to pay.Explain to me why insurance has to be paid for a year, but they only have to cover you for 6 months!

Humana Disability Insurance Review from Cantonment, Alabama

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I'm disabled and have Humana Medicare . My PCP changed facilities in August. 2014 I called Humana CS to see if she would still be in network prior to me changing to her new facility. I was told that she WOULD still be in Network and that I would be covered. In June 2015 my PCP tried to get me a referral to see a Poditrest but it was denied so she called Humana and they told her that she could not be my PCP because she was out of Network. Even thought they have been paying her all this time. Now Humana tells me that there going to take back all the money they paid her and that I have to find another PCP. That's not going to happen . So when I called Humana they tell me well we're sorry I was giving the wrong information but but that's just too bad. How can they be allowed to lie to the customer without any reprocusion I really just don't get it. Just to be fair to Humana my coverage has been above average. But under no condition will they right their wrong in this case. My 80 year old mother dropped them the first two months because they would not get her Oxygen tanks and supplies to her. I should have known then. It's a shame that the standards set forth with this insurance company is so low . If every customer would drop Humana and go with another company I guarantee they would think twice about how they treat their customers. Chris Pensacola, Florida.

Humana - Medical Care Review from Caldwell, Idaho

For 7 months Humana has discriminated against my disabled daughter denying her the medical care her wound Dr.said she needs to recover fully. Dr wants her to go from local hospital to a LTAC facility where she can receive the proper care by "real" wound nurses that follow the Drs orders to the letter. Instead Humana denies her that and says all she needs is "skilled nursing" other wise known as nursing homes. She has been sent to two different nursing homes that said they could provide the care for her and do the bandage changes TWICE a day as required by her wound Dr. Neither one of those dumps knew how to do a "wet to dry" bandage change, nor could they get the right size of tubagrip pressure bandage ordered by the Dr. RESULTS : within 2-3 weeks of being in nursing home her legs become infected requiring massive doses of antibiotics 2x daily. The wounds go from healing to so infected , covered in sluff, eating away to as deep as to the muscle, roughly 1/2 in deep and from the size of a fifty cent piece to the size of my opened hand. Then back to the hospital for a picc line so they can give her IV antibiotics every 6 hrs for at least 10- 14 days. Then Humana says nursing home.. again. Everyone needs to be aware that Humana will and has done this 3 TIMES to my disabled daughter since the first if the year. She has not been home and at this moment has been back in the hospital for 2 weeks with a wound vac on now and no nursing home will accept her now due to the wound care needed and they see that other facilities failed to do proper care so nobody in the state will take her. She is being released and brought to my home today knowing that i can not pull her up from a chair or pull her up out of bed. She has laid in bed in the hospital for 18 days and lost her strengh to stand by herself and needs a walker to walk with. I would like to talk face to face to the person that has caused my daughter months and months of continued pain and infection by denying her , a disabled person, the proper care her Dr. wants her to have to recover once and for all. This is ABUSE to deny a human being the best care available for them to have a full recovery. Humana has to pay for an LTAC hospital but not for a nursing home. HUMANA NO MORE CARES FOR A PATIENTS WELL BEING AND RECOVERY SIMPLY BECAUSE ITS ALL ABOUT SAVING THAT MONEY VS CARE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE LOCAL TELEVISION CO. 6 ON YOUR SIDE AND I'M WAITING FOR A CALL TO BE INTERVIEWED AND TELL MY STORY. HERE IS A PICTURE OF MY DAUGHTERS LEGS TAKEN BY ME AFTER ONLY 2 WEEKS. You tell me how Humana can do this to my daughter?? Would the SOB that denied her the care she needed do this to their daughter? *** NO THEY WOULDN'T CINDY V. FROM THE BOISE IDAHO AREA

I work for Humana and if I was preauthorizing your daughter's case, she would not be in what you call a nursing home. If your daughter started off post acute in a nursing home and went BACK TO ACUTE, there are guidelines that specifically say if the member FAILS A LOWER LEVEL OF CARE SHE/HE WOULD NOT BE SENT BACK TO THAT LEVEL OF CARE.

She would automatically meet criteria for an LTACH admission. Appears to me, you were dealt someone who did not know what she/he was doing and did not follow guidelines. Secondly, you have the right to appeal. Does that take long??

No, not if you ask for an EXPEDITED APPEAL. All appeals are reviewed by a neutral party, by the way.

Don't knock an insurance company all together when you were dealt one bad egg. I love my job. If I did not I would not remain there for as long as I have.

I have reviewed so many cases where underserved individuals need medical care so bad. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, ppl are getting the help they need. I'm not saying you have an ACA Plan and I don't know what kind of plan you have, but my point is just as you get pissed off at Humana, I feel glad that we can offer medical help to ppl so they can have a better quality of life. I work for Humana, I love Humana, and I would not work anywhere else.

One thing I love about my job is it gives me the opportunity to speak with members to let them know what they can do when they feel they are not provided quality care. Like I said, if I were authorizing your daughter's case she would be in the right place at the right time. I take pride in being a patient advocate. It's not all about the money to me.

It's about why I went into nursing in the first place. To help people.

And believe it or not, there are more ppl like me at Humana. Good luck to you and your daughter.

By the time you get done fighting you are drained but that is what they hope that you will just go away. We might go away for our own selves but when it comes to our children we will fight to the gates of *** for them.

Humana is a mess and no one who answers the customer service calls gives correct answers or know what they are doing. Inexcusable.

Thats outragious!!!! Get on there *** and stay there, mom!

My disabled daughter just died after 29 years and I am fully aware of the BS that insurance companies, hospitals, homes etc. inflict upon the disabled. I feel for you and your daughter and my hopes and prayers are with you. May she have a speedy recovery and justice for the *** they have made her endure!!!!

PS. Insurance companies motto, "make them give up".

So don't give up no matter what they say. They are all liars!!!!
